These are the minutes of the Northshore NEMBA Chapter meeting held Thursday,
June 22nd, at the Majestic Dragon in Ipswich.
Attendees: Steve Charrette, Ron Corporon, Ray DeMarquez, Joe Dizazzo, Kirk
Goldsworthy, Bob Hicks, Jim Humphrey, Brian Kubaska, Frank Lane, Scott
Merloni, Dan Streeter
Trail Works Days update - Dan Streeter
- a new trail was completed at Harold Parker (called "School Daze"); this
was started for the large group attending the IMBA Trail School held on May
19th, and finished May 20th by the usual suspects (see details here -
http://nsnemba.org/TrailWork_2006_05_21.htm)
- a new trail was completed on June 3rd at Moon Hill on Bradley Palmer State
Park/Willowdale Mill Reservation (part of Essex County Greenbelt), which was
then used for the North Shore Classic race (http://nsnemba.org/TrailWork_2006_06_03.htm)
- Dan had hoped to do a trail day at Bald Hill in Boxford on 6/17 but it was
still wet from the rains, so additional work was done at the Moon Hill site
instead
- Dan has scheduled a trail day on 9/17 at The Trustees of Reservations Ward
Hill property in North Andover (see
http://www.nsnemba.org/TrailWork.htm , and more below)
- Dan has scheduled a trail day for 10/14 after the logging is done at
Harold Parker, as it has affected some of the trails there near Rte.114
- An additional day may be needed to address problems with the existing
trail near "School Daze". This might be substituted for the planned mudpits
and logging area reroute, as the logging has not yet impacted trails as much
as expected.
Treasurer's Report - Ron Corporon
- Ron did not have a complete report today. He did note the most recent
large expenditure was $835 to reimburse Dan for materials on previous trail
projects.
Website (
http://nsnemba.org)- Kirk
Goldsworthy
- Site has been updated with pictures of latest trail work
Donations to other trail groups/property owners - Bob Hicks/Dan Streeter
- Bob had proposed donations of volunteer time and materials on trail
projects with landowners who are friendly to mountain biking
- Dan and Bob are working on a proposal for a bridge at Ward Hill in North
Andover. Dan estimates the materials would cost about $300 - project needs
approval from the North Andover Conservation Commission, and is in
permitting with Superintendent Bob Murray
- Dan said that he had previously donated about $150 in materials to another
Greenbelt project in Beverly Commons
- Dan has been working with Dave Rimmer of Greenbelt, but Dave does not
currently have any trail construction plans
- Some of the new Moon Hill work was done on Greenbelt property, which
included a bridge costing about $150
Wicked Ride - Sandy Bray
- Sandy wasn't present, but a couple of items were noted
- This ride will now be an MBAS event, which means:
- there will be more support for the ride from Philip
- donations from the event fees will be made to a charity (that North
Shore needs to select)
- there will be a raffle for a new Merlin bike.
