North Shore NEMBA Meeting Minutes

Held 12/3/2006 @ Frank Lane’s house

 

 

Attendees:  Dan Streeter, Frank Lane, Jim Humphrey, Fred White, Joe DiZazzo, Sandy Bray, Bob Hicks, Ron Corporon, Scott Merloni, Steve Charrette, James Vogh, Kirk Goldsworthy, Ray DeMarquez, Dave McCrimmon  

 

Agenda:

 

2006 Trail Work Days update (Dan)

- had 7 work days

- major work with Greenbelt (new trail on Moon hill) and Trustees of Reservations (new bridge at Ward Reservation in Andover, wher NEMBA did labor and bought materials)

- new trails at Harold Parker, and IMBA trila workshop

 

Treasurer’s report (Ron)

- cleared 1800 from the Wicked Ride ($2100+ gross minus chapter rebate of $160 and expenses of $200)

 

Website (Kirk)

- no updates, all is well

 

Wicked Ride update (Sandy)

-         most people ever attended – 264

-         64 joining or renewing, 43 non-members

-         15 volunteers involved

-         “extras” this year:

o       MBAS ride – there was more promotion

o       EMS downhill women’s team – gave skills clinics

o       Entry fee was doubled, so we made a lot more money

o       Ride was not held on cyclocross weekend, as it has been in the past

-         Ran out of hot food!

 

November 2006 BOD meeting (Frank, Dan)

-         main focus was membership retention

-         new policy – need to have riders sign liability waivers on rides posted in Singletracks

 

New business

 

Nominations and Elections

-         Dan nominated current slate of officers

o       President: Frank Lane

o       VP Fred White

o       Treasurer Ron Corporon

o       Secretary Jim Humphrey

o       BOD representative Dan Streeter

-         Steve C seconded, motion carried

 

Suggestions for trail projects in 2007

-         lots of discussion here

-         Ray suggested more workdays on Sundays

o       Dan – they were 50/50 Saturday and Sunday in 2006

-         Dan said Ray Fulcher (?) is overseeing all “Atlantic Division” state parks for the DCR now

-         Dan gave an update on the Georgetown-Rowley bridge

o       needs $35,000, 100-foot-long bridge able to support horses; Bay Circuit group has applied for a grant to fix it

o       Dan suggests a pledge from North Shore for it; would only be paid if the money was allocated for the project; DCR would be project manager

o       Ron made a motion for $1000 donation from North Shore, Jim seconded; motion carried

-         Dan proposed work in Harold Parker

o       Improved trail marking – suggests directional signs, blaze an easy and difficult loop

o       State is putting up carcinite posts (like in willowdale)

o       Suggests donation of $1000 for signs or to state’s Conservation Trust (fund used to support state parks)

o       Joe – need to redo Salem Pond bridge

o       Dan – other work could be in mud pits near 114; upper Terry trail and SchoolDaze

§         Good news is approvals are coming quicker from the state

§         Bad news is there is not much room for new trails except by Andover Gun Club area

-         Other areas with potential are Greenwood, other Greenbelt properties

-         Ron asked about Willwdale causeway – Dan indicated it is a major reconstruction project

 

Chapter rides for 2007

-         Scott plans to continue the Thursday night rides at Harold Parker

-         Ron – the Thursday rides were pretty aggressive

-         James – the DCR was leading Saturday mellow rides at Harold Parker last year

 

Skills Clinics

-         Should the chapter hold riding skills or repair clinics?

-         Dan S said Riverside Cycles of Newburyport would be interested in holding a repair clinic with NEMBA

-         Frank suggested combining a skills clinic with a mellow ride

 

Appreciation day for volunteers

-         Dan – how about volunteer t-shirts?; REI sponsored this one year

 

Take a Kid mountain biking day

-         a couple of chapters do them

-         Dan – suggests we support another chapter’s event rather than hold our own

 

Expired memberships

-         Frank – we have about 140 active members in North Shore

-         Ron – suggests members could call expired members they know

 

New liability waivers

- discussed at BOD meeting

- Dan – most clubs make riders sign waivers

- Ron – could be a problem for teen riders – wouldn’t their parents have to sign?

 

 

2007 meeting dates

- Frank suggests a ride and meeting in the summer

- Dan suggested maybe a Jan/Feb meeting to start planning new trails

- Need to see other meetings (MBAS events, etc) before North shore can finalize dates

 

Other business

-         Frank proposed supporting efforts to get new bike for DSS kid who had requested one for Christmas, with donation from North Shore

-         Ron – motion to donate up to $150

-         Motion approved
