New 45' Boardwalk at Ward Reservation - September 17, 2006
It has been 5 years or more
since North Shore NEMBA had a Trail Care Day at Ward
Reservation in Andover/North Andover. It was great to
be back and support this Trustees of Reservations property.
Thanks to property manager Bob Murray we had Conservation
Commission approval, boardwalk materials moved part way to
the site by truck, and help the day of the event.
Sixteen
volunteers toted prebuilt sections, lumber, and tools to the
site and installed 45' of boardwalk. Some drainage
improvements were also made in the trails approaching the
boardwalk site.
The boardwalk eliminates the need to go through a major
mudhole on an otherwise fine trail or to avoid it by
trespassing on adjacent private property. After a
quick bite, a bunch of us went out to ride the new bridge
and some of the great hilly singletrack that Ward
Reservation offers. Thanks to all the volunteers!
The finished boardwalk, located on the Boston Hill
side of Ward Reservation.
