Harold Parker Trail Work - October 14, 2006
Our final trail care event of the season was held at Harold Parker on Saturday, October 14th.  A group of eight volunteers showed up for this final event.  The group included seven of our regular North Shore volunteers plus Bob Giunta from the Merrimack Valley chapter of NEMBA.

The trail work for the day involved a couple of intermittent wet areas on the trail that runs along Sudden Pond.  It included rock armoring an approximately 15 foot section of trail and bypassing another wet area with a 30 to 40 foot reroute.  The rock armoring was a time consuming project that started with the removal of 6 to 12 inches of organic duff before building a causeway with rocks.  Large rocks were used to create the tread.  Smaller rocks and crushed stone were used to lock the larger rocks in place and to aid in drainage.
