Harold Parker Trail Work - April 22, 2007

We had a very good turnout for out first Merlin /  NEMBA Trail Care Series event of 2007.  The fourteen volunteers included many of the regular crew plus a couple of new individuals, William & Miguel, that we were very happy to meet.  After our work was completed, we had some lunch in the parking lot and then a few of us went out for a nice ride in Harold Parker State Forest.

During 2006, North Shore NEMBA built two new trails just South of Salem Pond that tied into an existing "Middle Trail", see map at right.  The trail work during this year's first trail care event involved adding some drainage to the Middle Trail as well as rerouting the entrance near the fire road.  The entrance to the Middle Trail was and continues to be a "Y" in order to provide easy access from both directions along the fire road.  However, one leg of the "Y" has been rerouted away from a fall line and closer to the other leg.  This reroute makes the entrance more visible and will help prevent erosion.  Regarding drainage, a lot of hard work went into building a significant drainage feature that was added in order to fix a wet area near the lower portion of the trail.  Also, a lot of smaller drainage features were added along the upper portions of the trail.

Thanks to all of the Volunteers for their hard work and we hope for another beautiful day and great turnout at out next trail care event.

Trail work was done on the Middle Trail that is South of the Salem Pond Loop.  Click Here for larger view.
